WORK LIFE BALANCE IN PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS

GOVT. MUST ENSURE WORK-LIFE BALANCE IN PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS

There was a forward of a newspaper article where CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP A A Rahim was talking to Asad Rehman on Zero Hour Mention on Work-life of Public Sector Banks' Employees.

The response:

Banks at one point were on a single track. Accept deposits and dish out advances. Some advances were usually written off.

As for services, it was collections, money transfers and inward remittances.

Banks have now become financial supermarkets.

It means they have to branch out into domains unexplored.

Transition is from the static to the dynamic.

Add to that the technology upgradation - organic and inorganic.

It's difficult for those from the old school.

Man hates to transit through unfamiliar territory.

It is this conflict that unsettles everyone in the industry.

Add to this the nature of the employees in the Govt Banks. They consider themselves the Govt.

They cannot absorb the shift to the service industry.

Besides all this there is a huge discontent over low wages in comparison with the hours of work bankers are forced to put in

Disgruntlement cascades.

And the politicians long for a bite in the pie - the income the bank employee generates.

Without unrest the politicians cannot survive.

Big tamasha all-round
