Chenthengu refers to the Chavakkad Orange Dwarf (COD) coconut -Yellow Coconut /  (Cocus nucifera) Fruit Live Plant (Home & Garden)
 It is a variety known for its distinctive orange leaf petioles, inflorescences, and nuts. Grown widely across Kerala, it is highly valued as an ornamental palm, for its sweet tender water, and for breeding high-yielding hybrids.

  • Height: Dwarf variety reaching about 6–8 feet, making it easy to maintain.
  • Yield: Can produce anywhere from 65 to over 100 coconuts per year.
  • Tender Water: 7-month-old nuts are highly sweet, containing highly desirable tender coconut water.
  • Harvest Time: Starts bearing fruit in about 3-4 years from planting. 
Care & Cultivation
  • Climate: Thrives in tropical, frost-free climates with full sunlight. Avoid heavy, high-wind prone areas or use windbreaks if necessary.
  • Soil: Prefers well-draining, sandy loam, or loamy soil.
  • Watering: Requires ample moisture, especially in the summer. Adult palms need about 600-800 liters of water every 4 to 7 days.
  • Fertilization: Susceptible to nitrogen and potassium deficiencies; applying palm-specific fertilizer or a balanced mix 3-4 times a year ensures healthy growth.
