സ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാർഥിനിയെ തെരുവുനായ്ക്കൾ ഓടിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ
This is the visual image of a school girl aged seven years attacked by five street dogs as she was returning from school. Terror stricken, we could hear her crying aloud - aiyyo, aiyyo - as she was running fast to save herself from the ferocious dogs. We could sense what went through her mind. We were one with her. Fleet footed, we heaved a sigh of relief, when she outran the dogs that were about to pounce on her.
The report was in Manorama online.
The incident took me back to my own life at Munnar when I was growing up.
The year was 1963. I was in the 8th standard. Aged 13 years. I wore shorts and slacks. After a long wait I had a pair of shoes on my feet. My parents must have sacrificed quite a lot to present it to me. Our house was in the middle of a hill. It was below the Munnar - Mattuppatty Road and above the Munnar - Grahamsland Road.
I was at the Government High School, Munnar. It was three miles from my house. I used to walk the distance from the school to my house for lunch at noon recess and return after the lunch. There were two buildings called 26 murry or 26 houses in a single building and 20 murry or 20 houses in a single building, the former on the top road and the latter on the road down. My route to the school was the Munnar - Grahamsland Road that skirted the 20 murry. As I reached this location, one dog barked at me. I had always seen a large number of dogs there. All of sudden I saw several dogs joining the one who started it first. The barking became louder. They didn't stop with it. They started running towards me. I was afraid. I turned around. I ran for dear life. I could sense one or two dogs were closing in. By that time I reached the narrow path up that led to my house. I jumped on to the path and doubled up on that steep gradient. As I was climbing up the hill, I could see the dogs on the road. There were at least
fifteen to twenty of them. Fortunately they chose not to follow me up the hill.
When I returned in about five minutes, Mummy was concerned. I explained what had happened. Papa's friend Krishnankutty Chettan was there at that time. He volunteered to come and help me cross the critical point. The dogs were still there. But they chose to ignore us. Past 20murry I told Krishnankutty Chettan, I would run to reach the school in time. I was happy I could reach the school in time despite the unexpected turbulence on the way.
