Recently, in an interview he has stated that it is highly alarming that foreign investment firms are taking over several succesfully run hospitals in Kerala.
He has invited our attention to the dangers involved in the issue.
According to him, the investment firms have nothing to do with medical science. They are solely interested in the generation of profits. There would be an added danger that the data of the patients in India could be made available to the Pharma companies or whoever is interested abroad. It could compromise data security.
He further invites our attention to the overriding role, the health insurance providers are playing in the course of treatment at the hospitals in India. In fact we have come to a stage where the insurance providers are determining whether a patient requires to be hospitalised or not.
He highlights the plight of the poor patients and those who do not have much of an income. A day will not be far off, when health services would be unavailable to most if they do not have high levels of insurance. It would not be long before the foreign investments firms extend their grip over the health insurance in the country and the people would be made to suffer more and more in the process.
He mentions the high cost of medical assistance in the US, UK or Europe where the availability of specialists is not as simple as how it prevails in India.
He advises caution.
