MANAGING MY BABY WAS NEW TO ME

Maestro Shujaat Hussain Khan, born on 19 May 1960, to Vilayat Khan, declared widely to be a magician with Sitar, and Monisha, became a legendary musician all over the world at a very young age. His performance, on stage with the Sitar in his hands, mesmerised the audience.

Shujaat married Parveen after courting her for a couple of months. They were very young. Soon after the marriage they settled in Delhi as Shujaat was committed to concerts abroad. Parveen was contented she was in Delhi, which was not far from Parveen’s family at Dehradun.

Parveen had Fiza, their child to look after while Shujaat was away. Parveen was happy because she could be in touch with her mother, her pillar, for her needs.

Praveen said, “ I knew I could send her an SOS. It was all new to me. I did not know whether bananas were bought in dozens or kilos. I had no clue. Nor of Delhi and its roads -  what was where, its shops, its facilities. And don’t forget managing my baby was new to me.”
