V-Guard
Industries Founder Kochouseph Chittilappilly
Hailing from a well off family of agriculturists, his ambition was to join
ISRO as a scientist. With that in mind, he did an MSc in Electronics. But he
had some learning disabilities that left his dream unfulfilled. He worked for
three years after post-graduation in a small-scale unit at Trivandrum that
manufactured Voltage Stabilizers. He felt he could design a better product
while servicing stabilizers brought in by the customers. The V-Guard saga began
when he was 27 with a capital of Rs.1 lakh raised from his father.
His hiring philosophy – giving a chance to average
students worked wonders. The guiding principle was,” Ordinary people are doing
extraordinary things in our company. I was just an above average student and if
I could achieve this much, anybody can.
I value common sense more than technology knowledge.”
