BEING A PARENT THE TOUGHEST
JOB ON EARTH

Once kids reach a
certain age you need to let them fly. But it’s extremely difficult to let go.
It makes you very happy when you see them grow and make a life for themselves. However,
when they grow up and move away they take a little bit of your heart with them.
You keep looking at their photographs. When they come for their holidays, it’s
like they have never left. You do the same things for them. You make sure they
eat. They behave like small children when they are back. They wish to be pampered
and have everything done for them.
When you look back you wonder how you brought your children up. You would feel there was some kind of a force out there that supported you all throughout. When you are a working woman, there would be a lot of guilt you have to deal with as you would be forced to leave your children alone and proceed with your job. Here, if your partner does not support you everything would go haywire.
Being a parent is tough because you are nurturing and creating these human beings. Being a parent is a learning journey. You have to instill in the children the right values. .You have to be sure about the values you are imparting upon your children as they are going to grow up with that. You would always be hoping and praying that they would become good human beings. You would have to tell your kids a lot of stories. The stories certainly would stay with them. Please speak to them about their grandparents who had struggled hard at one point of time. You must sit and chat with the kids.
Nobody is perfect. Never expect the children to be perfect. They will make mistakes. It’s only when they make mistakes they would learn. You have to be there as the right guide for them.
Be open with the children. When you become protective, trying to shield the kids from everything, you have to understand they are soon going to be out in the real world. It’s better to prepare them at the earliest.
The examination system that exists today needs to be revamped. It is unfortunate that the undue importance on Class 10 results is stifling the nurturing of the children
Parents should recognize what their kids are really good at instead of forcing them to do something they are not even interested in. The offers that claim to make your child a genius are crazy. Please do not box them into so many little things. It is really sad.
